  • Fiction in a Flash – “The Final Request” April 4th, ’11

    ~*~*~*~

    John Doe, Jane Doe…
Just another Doe to you, as you slide me into my steel drawer.
An undignified end, that toe tag without my real name on it.
    But bear in mind -
    I’ve been a partner, a parent, a sibling…

You may never know the details,
    But they remain, nonetheless.

    Please slide gently.

  • Fiction in a Flash – “The Letter” March 26, ’11

    The Letter

    An anachronism almost, now.
    Tidings of births, marriages,
    across-the-miles news…
Once flowed as freely as the ink
that stained the paper beneath it.
A million and more personal fonts,
as individual as the people that wrote them.
Now we share Garamond, Comic Sans,
    Courier…
Our “courier” no longer the Postman,
    but the Inbox.

  • Fiction in a Flash – “Waiter, Waiter!” Feb 12, ’11

She stared intently at the contents of her glass,
wondering whether it was “doing the breaststroke, Madam”,
or whether she should “keep your voice down or everyone will want one!”

He whispered in her ear -
“it seems the flies in this particular restaurant have far
more discerning taste than the regular ‘Soup de Jour’, darling…”

  • Fiction in a Flash – “Absent Friends” Feb 5th, ’11

Inspiration was not forthcoming this week. She took herself to the window and gazed out, looking for a spark to set her mind in motion. But the view was muted and blurred, not helpful at all.

She sighed and turned back to her desk, thankfully failing to see her Muse, suitcase in hand, walking away…

  • Fiction in a Flash – “You Should Know Better” – Jan 29, ’11

Oh languorous woman, will you never learn?

    Bzzzz…

So much flesh on display. So much heat rising from the expansion of blood vessels.

    Bzzzz…

The warmth of the sun is not only your friend, but mine also. A delectable breast? A juicy thigh? Matters not to me!

    Bzzzz…

    You should have bought Deet.

    Bzzzz…

    ZAP.

    ~*~*~

Needing a quick rest, she perched atop the brightest thing she could see in the gloomy drear of the day.

    “Gorgeous colour”, she thought.

She failed to notice the small sign propped against the other end of the bench.

    “WET PAINT”.

She stood and strolled away, unaware how much that gorgeous colour would cost her.

  • Gator’s Triple Play – “Shooting the Moon” – March 28, ’10

I try so hard to “shoot the moon” but rarely with success.
My snaps have been likened to “melting cheese”, “a blob-thing” and “a mess”.
My lower lip quivers and trembles ‘cos every description is true,
It makes no difference what time of month ~ waxing, waning or new.
But I’ve actually managed to take some which shouldn’t so put me to shame
So I’m leaving one here  with a whistle and cheer
    And the wonderful Wendy James…

    Take it away, Wendy!

    Transvision Vamp – Sister Moon

Hey Sister Moon are you coming round soon
Hey Sister Moon, in your midnight blue
Hey Sister Moon, are you coming round soon
Hey Hey and Sister Moon, oh I’ve been missing you
Now if you take my heart you can take my hand
And I will be with you up in the big land
And groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on, my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Now Sister d’you remember all of those days
All those crazy nights seem lost in a haze
But every new moment that’s a brand new start
When you got the nature down deep in your heart
And as the mountains move on the winds of change
There’s no fear of the end, when you’ve got the world
    Running in your veins
So groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Now you got the skies and you got the stars
And you got the power to break a young heart
Yeah you got the power and you got the life
And you the love to make it alright
Hey Sister Moon are coming round soon
Hey Hey and Sister Moon, in your midnight blue
So groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on, my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Now you can take my heart and you can take my hand
And I won’t feel blue when you got the stars
    Shining down on you
And groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on Sister Moon, groove on Sister Moon
Oh won’t you, won’t you, won’t you, won’t you groove on
With me beneath the stars, take my heart to the stars
    To the stars oh yeah
    Groove on Sister Moon
    Groove on Sister Moon
    Groove on Sister Moon
    Groove on Sister Moon

  • Gator’s Triple Play – For my contacts only, lmao! – March 16, ’10

Just for sh*ts and giggles. Thanks for the inspiration Wayne!

When I lived back in England before I met my man,
I loved to toke on a big fat smoke, I didn’t give a damn.
We’d pass around a spliff (or few) ’til 3am or 4,
And I’d feast on Curly Wurlys until my jaws were sore.
But once I hit immigration with paperwork in reams
I had to curb this pastime in case it killed my dreams.
And now I’m here in America ~ the land of the Brave and Free,
    Although I’m sometimes wistful…
    I’m a Good Girl.
    Honestly. :)

  • Gator’s Triple Play – “A Happy Day From a Previous Life” Feb 2nd, ’10

We packed ourselves a picnic lunch and caught a train to the sea
We laughed and joked in the glittering sun and you took a photo of me
This song was played on the radio and we both sang along all the way
Do you still have the photo?
    Would you remember the song?
Do you smile when you think of that day?

    Happy Day – Blink

The streets were bright and the doors were all open
In this little place that we passed through,
You had your head turned away, but I knew,
You were smiling ‘cos you always do.
    Carrot cake in the afternoon,
And the sun in gleaming through the cream on the spoon,
Just me and you and you and me,
    In a little mad hat
    Down by the sea.

You thought the birds that flew above were stars,
    But they were only birds.
Stars don’t fly in the day,
Not where I come from anyway.
Just me and you and you and me
And you and me and a cacophony of angels,
All taking turns at singing tunes,
    With those little mad wings
    In the afternoon.

    And we held hands,
    And looked at the sea,
And the sea was our friend,
    So was everything.
I’d like to freeze that moment in time
And wrap it up in tinfoil,
With little ribbons and tinsel and say,
    “That was a happy day”.

A living colour came from under a rock and said,
“Could you kindly remove that mad hat?
I’m trying to get some sleep down here”,
    So you did,
    Disney, hey.
    Now I’ve seen it all,
    Now I’ve seen it all,
    Now I’ve seen it all,
    That was a happy day.
    A happy day.

    I’ll try, I’ll try, I’ll try,
    That was a happy day.
    A happy day.
    Happy day,
    Happy day,
    Day.
    That was a happy day.

  • Gator’s Triple Play – “Football is Life” Sept 22, ’09

It’s another round of Gator’s Triple Play, and this week I’m taking a wee trip down Memory Lane. I couldn’t find a Playlist version of this so can’t do autoplay, but please hit the play button on the video first. It just sort of fits, if you know what I mean. :) And it’s a great  video, too!

The biggest game of the season,
The F.A. Cup Final, is here.
    It’s Everton v. Man United
And some of my mates and me, we’re…

    Catching a train to London
    In 1995
To the hallowed ground of Wembley
    To watch the Final, live!

    With tickets in our pockets
    And excitement in our hearts,
And my thigh adorned with the Club crest tattoo
To celebrate ~ man, it smarts! :D

But the pain is soon forgotten
And the match is under way.
I’ll never forget it as long as I live,
    Not to my dying day.

The odds were “stacked against us”
    So all the pundits said
But we proved them wrong and won the game
    And left United for dead!

It only took one goal to be scored ~
    Paul Rideout the hero’s name,
And we won the biggest trophy
Of the world’s most Beautiful Game.

A lot of folks don’t understand
    The passion “footie fans” feel,
But to those of us who love the game,
    It’s very, very real.

    F.A. CUP FINAL 1995
    Everton 1 – Man Utd 0.

    “Football is life…
    the rest is mere detail.”

“ALL TOGETHER NOW” – THE FARM

    Everton’s gonna win the Cup
Big Dave’s gonna lift them up
    Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go,

All together now, all together now,
    all together now, for Everton.

    Remember boys back in ’66
We won the cup with Catterick
    Kendall’s boys in ’84
Now Big Joe Royle is coming back for more

(Chorus) All together now, all together now,
all together now, all together now,
    together forever, for Everton,
    all, all, all together now.

No spirit’s stronger than the Blues today
We’re gonna play the Everton Way
The Golden Vision and Dixie Dean
The School of Science by far the greatest team

(Commentary) Everton corner from the right too,
left footed by Hinchcliffe, and it comes off the defender and it’s in the net. Matthew Jackson was up inside the penalty area, it skimmed off the top of one of those heads. I think Jackson’s claiming it.
Everton are in the lead here at Elland Road!

(Chorus) All together now, together, all together now, together, all together now, together forever,
    for Everton.

Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy.

(Commentary) Now there’s a bad kick, bad clearance. Rideout’s in the clear, can he finish? Walker goes down, Stuart scores for Everton!

    We’ll win the Cup again
Everton in the Hall of Fame
    Glory days here to stay
Joe’s Blue Army coming down Wembley Way

(Commentary) Limpar’s still running, feeds it towards Horne, Stuart’s available wide, should be played back, Stuart’s cross and Amokachi heads Everton into the 1995 FA Cup Final, the substitute’s only been on about 10 minutes, it’s Everton 3 Spurs 1

(Chorus) All together now, together, all together now, together, all together now, forever, forever, for Everton, Everton, Everton.

(Commentary) And now Limpar, Limpar on Calderwood, Ablett to his left, Limpar feeds it to Gary Ablett left side of the penalty area Amokachi’s unmarked, is this four? It is four. What a finish by Daniel Amokachi, Everton are on their way to Wembley!

(Chorus) All together now, all together, all together now, all together, all together now, oohh, for Everton.

(Sung to “Altogether Now” by The Farm
