  • Gator’s Triple Play – “Football is Life” Sept 22, ’09

It’s another round of Gator’s Triple Play, and this week I’m taking a wee trip down Memory Lane. I couldn’t find a Playlist version of this so can’t do autoplay, but please hit the play button on the video first. It just sort of fits, if you know what I mean. :) And it’s a great  video, too!

The biggest game of the season,
The F.A. Cup Final, is here.
    It’s Everton v. Man United
And some of my mates and me, we’re…

    Catching a train to London
    In 1995
To the hallowed ground of Wembley
    To watch the Final, live!

    With tickets in our pockets
    And excitement in our hearts,
And my thigh adorned with the Club crest tattoo
To celebrate ~ man, it smarts! :D

But the pain is soon forgotten
And the match is under way.
I’ll never forget it as long as I live,
    Not to my dying day.

The odds were “stacked against us”
    So all the pundits said
But we proved them wrong and won the game
    And left United for dead!

It only took one goal to be scored ~
    Paul Rideout the hero’s name,
And we won the biggest trophy
Of the world’s most Beautiful Game.

A lot of folks don’t understand
    The passion “footie fans” feel,
But to those of us who love the game,
    It’s very, very real.

    F.A. CUP FINAL 1995
    Everton 1 – Man Utd 0.

    “Football is life…
    the rest is mere detail.”

“ALL TOGETHER NOW” – THE FARM

    Everton’s gonna win the Cup
Big Dave’s gonna lift them up
    Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go,

All together now, all together now,
    all together now, for Everton.

    Remember boys back in ’66
We won the cup with Catterick
    Kendall’s boys in ’84
Now Big Joe Royle is coming back for more

(Chorus) All together now, all together now,
all together now, all together now,
    together forever, for Everton,
    all, all, all together now.

No spirit’s stronger than the Blues today
We’re gonna play the Everton Way
The Golden Vision and Dixie Dean
The School of Science by far the greatest team

(Commentary) Everton corner from the right too,
left footed by Hinchcliffe, and it comes off the defender and it’s in the net. Matthew Jackson was up inside the penalty area, it skimmed off the top of one of those heads. I think Jackson’s claiming it.
Everton are in the lead here at Elland Road!

(Chorus) All together now, together, all together now, together, all together now, together forever,
    for Everton.

Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy.

(Commentary) Now there’s a bad kick, bad clearance. Rideout’s in the clear, can he finish? Walker goes down, Stuart scores for Everton!

    We’ll win the Cup again
Everton in the Hall of Fame
    Glory days here to stay
Joe’s Blue Army coming down Wembley Way

(Commentary) Limpar’s still running, feeds it towards Horne, Stuart’s available wide, should be played back, Stuart’s cross and Amokachi heads Everton into the 1995 FA Cup Final, the substitute’s only been on about 10 minutes, it’s Everton 3 Spurs 1

(Chorus) All together now, together, all together now, together, all together now, forever, forever, for Everton, Everton, Everton.

(Commentary) And now Limpar, Limpar on Calderwood, Ablett to his left, Limpar feeds it to Gary Ablett left side of the penalty area Amokachi’s unmarked, is this four? It is four. What a finish by Daniel Amokachi, Everton are on their way to Wembley!

(Chorus) All together now, all together, all together now, all together, all together now, oohh, for Everton.

(Sung to “Altogether Now” by The Farm
